It's all about Family!
Amigos was conceived from a long line of family restaurants. The Prado family originates from Jalisco, MX. Martin and his brothers immigrated to the US in the 1980’s as teenagers. Martin moved to Chicago, where he worked in family restaurants and met his future wife, Sonia, a native of Puerto Rico. In the 1990’s, they relocated to Springfield to work with cousins at Cielito Lindo. In 2000, Martin, now with 3 children, was given the opportunity to open his own place.
First Location
He found an old Dairy Queen, which had more recently been a Korean takeout restaurant and grew the business steadily over the years. With consistently delicious and large portions as well as a welcoming and “Cheers”-like atmosphere, he developed a following. Over the years, he was able to bring the rest of the family into the business. As the business grew, the building became cramped and badly in need of renovation.
The Future
In 2025, he was approached with the opportunity to relocate to a bigger and better building in the Camelot Shopping Center, our current location. We welcome you to our family owned and operated restaurant and hope that you will enjoy it and come back over and over again!
